Upcoming Events at Duloch Library

Come along to Duloch Library for an exciting evening with award-winning Scottish crime author, Tariq Ashkanani. Tariq’s first book, Welcome to Cooper, was published in 2021 and won the Blood Scotland Debut Award.

His latest novel The Midnight King, was awarded the McIlvanney Award for the Scottish Crime Book of 2025. The book is a thriller about the son of a serial killer returning home for his father's funeral.  The celebrated author leaves behind a manuscript which forms a fictionalised confession and a box filled with mementos from each of the children he has killed, including one from a girl who went missing days before his death. This is a story about family, trauma and the secrets we keep within.

Here’s your chance to meet Tariq in person at Duloch Library on Thursday 23rd April at 7pm*. (*Doors opening at 6.45pm).

The second event is Witches of Scotland- this is a campaign dedicated to seeking justice for all those accused of witchcraft in Scotland.

Join us for a fascinating evening with advocate Claire Mitchell KC and writer Zoe Venditozzi, the founders of the Witches of Scotland, as they take you through the history of the witch hunts that ripped through the country from the 16th to the 18th century.

Witches of Scotland is a campaign dedicated to seeking justice for the nearly 4,000 individuals, predominantly women, who were accused of witchcraft in Scotland between 1563 and 1736. Since 2020 they have managed to secure a formal apology from the Scottish government acknowledging the historic injustice suffered by those accused of witchcraft and continue to work towards securing a legal pardon for those convicted and establishing a national memorial to honour the victims.

They will be coming by to Duloch Library on Thursday 21st May at 7pm to discuss the history surrounding this fascinating period and their efforts at finding justice for all those involved.

Both events are for 16 years+ and doors open at 6.45pm.

Tickets are £3.00 and available in branch or online at https://www.onfife.com/events/?types=&venues=duloch-library&dates=
