Free Summer Art Challenge

This summer, the City of Dunfermline Heritage Group, in partnership with Dunfermline Carnegie Library & Galleries, is joining the national celebrations marking the 200th anniversary of the Royal Scottish Academy through RSA200: Celebrating Together.

Children aged 5 to 12 are invited to take part in a free creative summer art challenge celebrating Dunfermline’s rich history: “Historic Dunfermline Through the Eyes of Children”.

Young artists are invited to create an A4 artwork inspired by Historic Dunfermline. This could include buildings, landmarks, famous people, artefacts, local scenery, or moments from the past. The challenge offers children a chance to develop their artistic skills and explore their surroundings. For adults, it will provide a revealing insight into how children see and value Dunfermline’s heritage. Participation is free, and children can use their own art materials or take advantage of free art kits if required. All the artworks will be included in the exhibition opening on 22 August 2026 at Dunfermline Carnegie Library and Galleries.

The challenge will begin on 4 July with a special opening event featuring an introduction by Royal Scottish Academy Director Colin Greenslade, followed by artist-led creative workshops for children. (Registration is necessary).
