Small Steps for Change: Travel

Each of us leaves a carbon footprint on our planet every single day through our day to day actions. Too much carbon dioxide (CO2) causes heat to be trapped in the earth's atmosphere, which in turn warms up our planet. It’s definitely important for us all to think about the amount of carbon dioxide we produce.
How we get about and our use of vehicles are two key ways we can think about the impact we make on our planet and our local environment. We can all play our part in making small changes that add up to a big difference.
Which of these key actions do you already do? And which could you adapt or add into your life?
Walk - this is the most environmentally friendly mode of transport. Trying to walk for short trips can make a massive impact on your carbon footprint, as well as reducing air pollution in your area. Walking more will also have a positive impact on your physical and mental health.
Cycle - ask your employer if they have a cycle to work scheme. You could get a good offer on a bike. If you've got a neglected bike in your garage or shed why not dust it off and take it for a service at the Bike Shop Scotland at Pitreavie Industrial Estate?
Take the bus or train - using public transport to get about is a great way to help the environment. Under 22s can request a National Entitlement Card to receive free bus travel. Check the Stagecoach and ScotRail apps for bus and train routes in the area.
No more idling - turning off your car's engine if you're waiting anywhere reduces both unnecessary CO2 emissions and air pollution.
What can you do for World Car Free Day 22nd September? Could you cycle, walk or take the bus?
